Activity Locking Course Format Moodle 1.9

Chardelle Busch offered a new course format, Activity Locking, available here Activity Locking means simply having the ability within Moodle to set requirements on students to complete or obtain certain grades in tasks before they can proceed onto the next. This feature will be standard in Moodle 2.0 where it will be known as “Conditional Activities” but so far the only way to achieve this in earlier versions of Moodle has been via an extra plugin. Chardelle has simplified the process considerably by including this feature in a course format. It is based on the topic format but each activity you create will have a padlock next to it. Clicking on the padlock will take you to a screen where you can set criteria for students to meet before they may continue on the course. I made a really quick rough and ready screencast below showing how to install and use this really handy format.
