Let students choose their groups in Moodle 2.0

I have often been asked if there is a way for students to choose which group they would like to be in – and one of the workarounds has been to set up a Choice which allows them to pick their group. However, the downside of this option has always been that the teacher then has to go and add the students manually to the groups of their -er  -choice 🙂 Not any more. Here is  a great addition to a Moodle 2.0 site – a customised version of the Choice module, whereby students can choose which group they would like to be in -and their choice gets sent to the groups in the administration settings.  Apparently there was a version of this, some hacked code, for 1.9  but it’s “official” now and available HERE in the Modules and Plugins section of Typical me – I downloaded  and installed Choicegroup, played with Choicegroup,made a screencast about Choicegroup – and only when I uploaded this to youtube did I realise the module is called – Choicegroup – and not Group Choice! Never mind – a rose by any other name would be as Cool… enjoy:
